Brooklyn, NY – National Grid employees, in partnership with local organizations, community members, and officials, united across New York to make a positive impact during National Grid’s annual Project C Week of Service. In Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, volunteers participated in events focused on environmental sustainability, community support, renewal and revitalization efforts.

  • Brooklyn:

National Grid teamed up with UA3 Community First, The Campaign Against Hunger  and the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office to host a pop-up pantry and resource fair for 200 local residents. Participants received fresh produce and snacks, energy efficiency kits and had access to 17 organizations providing vital information on health, constituent services and other local programs.

Volunteers also came together to construct a recyclable floating garden bed, build storage shelves and other maintenance tasks at RETI Center in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

“Project C is the way we create lasting change, together,” said Bryan Grimaldi, Vice President Corporate Affairs New York, kicking off the Brooklyn event.

Here's what partners said about the day:

"The partnership between UA3 and National Grid exemplifies our shared mission to provide resources that benefit the community,” said Don Hong of UA3 Inc. “We are honored to be part of this year's National Grid Day of Service Pop Up Pantry & Resource Fair, engaging in social responsibility and working hand-in-hand to uplift neighborhoods and ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve.”

“National Grid’s Pop-Up Pantry and Resource Day is a critical example of public and private partners working together to ensure that the needs of all Brooklynites are met,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “I am proud to be a partner for this event and look forward to future opportunities to partner with private and nonprofit organizations to continue delivering crucial resources for Brooklynites.”

“We are grateful that RETI Center and National Grid’s mission and values aligned to create this event and glad to get this needed support. We believe this is just the beginning,” said Jinean Robinson, RETI Center Community Engagement Lead. “We hope with this partnership with National Grid that this day can be a model and live experiential experiment of what it looks like to come together to serve.”

  • Queens

“Through today’s efforts we’re reinforcing Project C’s core pillars: clean energy and sustainability, environmental justice, and neighborhood development,” said Chris McConnachie, Chief Financial Officer, National Grid New York, as he helped kick off the Queens event. “National Grid’s commitment goes beyond a day or week of service; it is embedded in how we engage with the world, drive change, and build sustainable communities.”

More than 130 National Grid volunteers joined Partnerships for Parks and New York City Parks Department at Brookville Park in Rosedale, Queens. Volunteers gathered to spread mulch, pull invasive weeds along walking paths, and beautify the picnic and recreational areas, removing 100 bags of weeds, leaves, and litter across the 90-acre park.

“We are proud of our longstanding partnership with National Grid, which helps ensure that neighborhood parks across our city are clean, green, and vibrant,” said Sabina Saragousi, Director of Partnerships for Parks.

  • Staten Island

On Staten Island, National Grid volunteers cleaned and beautified the commercial business districts alongside the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.

"We’re so glad to once again partner with National Grid on their annual 'Day of Service.'  This will be the third year that National Grid employee volunteers have hit the streets in St. George, Tompkinsville, and Stapleton,” said Linda Baran, President & CEO, Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. “We’re grateful for their ongoing support of the small businesses that keep our community humming.”
